On Dec 10 (local time), Time Magazine released a list of the most influential figures in each field on its official website and named BTS as the ŌĆ£ENTERTAINER of the year.ŌĆØ ŌĆ£BTS isnŌĆÖt just the biggest K-pop act on the charts. TheyŌĆÖve become the biggest band in the worldŌĆŌĆØfull stop,ŌĆØ TIME introduced BTS. ŌĆ£Between releasing multiple albums, breaking every type of record and appearing in these extemporaneous livestreams in 2020, BTS ascended to the zenith of pop stardom. And they did it in a year defined by setbacks, one in which the world hit pause and everyone struggled to maintain their connections.ŌĆØ They also emphasized the bond between BTS and their fandom ARMY, saying, ŌĆ£But BTSŌĆÖs bonds to their international fan base, called ARMY, deepened amid the pandemic, a global racial reckoning and worldwide shutdowns.ŌĆØ They also added, ŌĆ£As opposed to top-down instruction from an icon to their followers, BTS has built a true community ŌĆ” The BTS fandom isnŌĆÖt just about ensuring the bandŌĆÖs primacyŌĆŌĆØitŌĆÖs also about extending the bandŌĆÖs message of positivity into the world.ŌĆØ
TIME also released an interview with BTS. In it, Jimin shared, ŌĆ£What gave us hope and joy this year were our fans and members. We climbed up our way slowly from the bottom, so it feels like we grew together.
